Cybersecurity and Digital Disruption: the Big Themes at Lawtech 2018
Concep Director Andrew Jackson was in Noosa, Queensland last week where Australia’s leading legal technology event held their 13th Summit, bringing together the law tech community.
With keynote presentations from legal technologists, researchers and leading law firms to inspire the conversation, delegates took the opportunity to network with their peers, sharing their stories and their expertise.
It should come as no surprise that cybersecurity was one of the big topics of conversation. Recent global events have made the public acutely aware of how safe their data is and firms are having to respond by implementing strategies that will reassure their clients and minimise risk.
The rise of new technologies is changing the nature of the industry as we know it. There is no doubt that innovation brings with it risks and rewards and law firms will need to adapt – not just their technology but their entire business model in order to survive.
Speaking at the event, Canadian legal innovation expert Mitchell Kowalski from University of Calgary Law School predicts that the legal industry will transform from a lawyer-dominated industry into a service that is merely augmented by lawyers over the next decade, saying that the level of disruption is unprecedented and law firms who don’t adapt to this change are “making the riskiest move of all”.
Concep Director, Andrew Jackson comments: “The success of the Lawtech Summit is not just about hearing engaging and relevant thinking and topics from the speakers. It’s about having the opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals build relationships and share experiences. Many of the people I spoke to have come away with new ideas and improvements that they can implement in their own practice.
From Concep’s perspective, this is not just about being able to provide the app to support the event but being able to listen and learn, strengthening our understanding of our clients’ needs and having a good grasp on the big, big issues that are affecting the sector. That’s important to us.”
The Lawtech Summit, created and produced by Chilli IQ took place in Noosa, Queensland from 13-14 September 2018. Concep is Lawtech’s app partner for the event.
