Clifford Chance is an integrated global law firm advising financial institutions, commercial enterprises, and state and regulatory bodies on complex and critical legal issues. The firm traditionally communicated with its clients and prospects with hard copy publications and basic HTML email which were inconsistently branded and lacked individual recipient reporting. No feedback mechanism meant Clifford Chance had no effective method of collecting intelligence from the audience they were communicating with, no way of understanding which articles specific audiences were interested in and whether marketing material had reached their intended audience at all.

Clifford Chance licensed Concep globally to enable its business development professionals to create and send professionally branded communications easily. Clifford Chance worked in conjunction with Concep to develop a communications programme that would allow its business development professionals to easily distribute relevant information in a timely manner by using tightly branded templates. Concep campaigner's reporting functionality allowed Clifford Chance to continually gauge the levels of interest generated therefore identifying possible follow up opportunities and feedback to tailor and fine tune future communications. Clifford Chance also uses the solution for "save the date" alerts, invitations to events, collecting feedback from email surveys, and also sends out their daily alert emails for their Online Services division.


Business development managers can monitor client and prospect interactions with email campaigns and are able to target follow-ups based on this qualified information. Some statistics on usage at the firm are quoted below:

  • More than 100 dedicated users with another 10 supporting users.
  • Many of Clifford Chance's weekly or monthly publications are now distributed using Concep campaigner, which Clifford Chance has rebranded to "cmail".
  • They have sent over 40,000 campaigns prior to February 2007. Including newsletters, alerts, save the dates, invites and questionnaires.
  • 12 of the 19 countries in which Clifford Chance operates use cmail as part of their marketing programmes.
  • cmail has contributed to approximately 10% increase in traffic to the Clifford Chance website.
